POSITION OVERVIEW:

Aftersight provides news, information, and resources in audio format for people who are blind, have low
vision, or benefit from alternatives to print. We provide free access to volunteer read and recorded audio
editions of newspapers, magazines, and more 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Aftersight is a 501c (3)
nonprofit.
The Assistant Podcast Producer, a part-time position, is a core member of Aftersight’s Programming
Team. This role is to create dependable production capacity, give the Volunteer Spotlight and Blindsight
programs clear ownership, protect deadlines and quality standards, and establish backup coverage across
Aftersight’s podcast network. The position will manage the complete podcast production process for
these programs, including guest coordination, preparation, recording, editing, publishing, and post
publication quality control. This position would be cross trained as a backup producer for all Aftersight
shows and could assume additional shows as capacity and competence grow.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Podcast Producer will have primary production responsibility for the following programs

• Volunteer Spotlight – Monthly
• Blindsight – Weekly
  Core Responsibilities
  Pre-Production
• Researching upcoming guests and episode topics.
• Preparing guest bios, interview notes, talking points, and host briefing materials.
• Coordinating with guests and hosts prior to recordings.
• Making sure recording links, materials, and other necessary information are prepared before the
  show.
• Preparing Riverside studios and production assets for scheduled recordings
  Recording
• Support and manage Riverside recording sessions when assigned.
• Confirm microphone, audio, video, and connection quality prior to recordings.
• Troubleshoot routine recording issues.
• Communicate comfortably and professionally with guests, hosts, volunteers, staff, and people
  from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  Editing and Production
• Edit and master podcast audio to broadcast quality
  o Perform occasional basic video editing when required
  o Complete quality-control reviews before publication
  o Write and edit titles, descriptions, metadata, and episode information
• Maintain and manage episodes postproduction
  o Publish completed episodes through Transistor
  o Verify episodes after publication
  o Maintain accurate episode records and production status
• Maintain and manage Production documentation and system
  o Keep the Aftersight Podcast Operations system current
  o Follow established production workflows and standard operating procedures
  o Document new procedures as systems change
• Identify and resolve production issues
  o Proactively identify routine problems and resolve them
  o Communicate early when a deadline, recording, or publication is at risk
• Other duties and assignments assigned

Training and Expectations

The new producer would begin with a structured onboarding and shadowing season (2-4 weeks).
Independent production and publishing authority would be earned after demonstrating consistent
performance quality, reliable communication, and sound judgment.

Training would include:

• Aftersight’s production standards
• Audio-editing and mastering expectations
• File organization and naming conventions
• Riverside recording workflows
• Transistor publishing
• Metadata and episode-copy standards
• Production-calendar management
• Quality-control procedures
• Post-publication verification
• Guest and host communication
• Backup production for all major shows

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1-2 years of podcast production experience preferred, including experience with recording,
  editing, guest coordination, publishing, or similar end-to-end podcast production responsibilities.
• Proficiency with at least one digital audio workstation (Adobe Audition, Audacity, Logic Pro, Pro
  Tools. Reaper, or similar software)
• Familiarity with Riverside or another remote recording platform
• Strong computer skills, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Salesforce, Google Workspace & Docs.
• Familiarity with or experience working with those that are blind or low vision preferred

• Podcast production experience
• Ability to complete full podcast editing and mastering
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Strong organization and deadline management
• Ability to learn Riverside, Transistor, and Aftersight’s production systems
• Basic video-editing ability
• Comfortable communicating with guests and hosts
• Capable of participating in interviews or appearing on-air when needed
• Open to feedback, proactive, and able to work independently after training

Employment Requirement:

• Hybrid schedule with requirement to be onsite 3 days a week in. Louisville, CO, as assigned by
  the Manager.
